Blue Mountains Concert Band was formed in 1983 as a community band, based in the lower Blue Mountains. Since then, the band has been prominent in the community, with a charter of service to support local civic events and provide entertainment that facilitates engagement of our community with the Arts.

Our dedicated youth concert band, Mountains Youth Band, was launched in 2002 and supports the musical development of youth in the local area. Band members come from the Blue Mountains, Penrith and Hawkesbury areas. The aims of Mountains Youth Band include voluntary service to the community, as well as building teamwork and leadership skills.

A fundamental philosophy of our organisation is that instrumentalists of all levels of ability and from all walks of life are welcome, including university students, retirees, and working adults in diverse professions. Some band members are young instrumentalists who enjoy ensemble playing or are preparing for HSC music performances. Other band members are graduates from school and youth bands, or musicians who have taken up instruments again after some time away or those choosing to learn a different instrument. Some are skilled instrumentalists who just like to play.

The music repertoire ranges from chorale and symphonic composition to cinematic medley. Under the guiding hand of conductor, Lachlan Foster, our musicians are encouraged to continue their musical development in a friendly, supportive and social environment, while serving the community as volunteers eager to engage others in community music.
