Blue Mountains Concert Society presents The Australian Brandenberg Orchestra
Celebrating chamber music from the English and French Baroque, Ayres & Graces features a brilliant ensemble of Brandenburg musicians on an eclectic combination of period instruments, directed by Principal Baroque Flute Melissa Farrow.
Opening amongst the French nobility in Paris, before traversing the pastoral countryside, be enthralled by musical pieces performed uniformly in the style of Jean-Baptise Lully, the fashionable director of music at the Court of the ‘Sun King’ Louis XIV. From the first opéra-ballet, L’Europe Galante Suite, to the rowdy Entée des Zéphyrs, before finishing with the majestic chaconne from Lully’s comédie-ballet for Le Bourgeous Gentilhomme, travel with the Brandenburg through the streets, theatres and lavish palaces of late seventeenth-century France.
Later, step out into the entrepreneurial centre of eighteenth-century London, boasting a cosmopolitan concert life and growing market for music-making in wealthy households. With a program featuring the diverse musical richness of the city at the time, discover the sounds that attracted many foreign musicians including composer George Frideric Handel.
Ethereal and enchanting, be swept away by heavenly trio sonatas, gorgeous pastoral folk tunes and intimate chamber music in a musical journey brought to life in regional centres, sharing the Brandenburg’s music up close with communities across Australia.
