Freedom is Beautiful - Film Screening
Presented by Blue Mountains Refugee Support Group
A deeply moving documentary about the lives of two asylum seekers Farhad Bandesh and Mostafa (Moz) Azimitabar who flee persecution from Iran to Australia in an uplifting story of the power of love, hope and our shared humanity.
Detained for almost 8 years by the Australian Federal government after fleeing persecution in Iran, Kurdish refugees Moz and Farhad used music and art to resist the brutal system that imprisoned them, and fight for the freedom of everyone held.
This documentary accompanies the exhibition at Braemar Gallery which is a showcase of new and recent works by Moz, including his 2022 Archibald self-portrait and a series of medium and large-scale canvases. Each work reflects survival, connection and freedom.
This film screening includes an opportunity to visit the Braemar Gallery at 5pm and meet with artist Moz Azimitabar prior to the film screening at the Blue Mountains Theatre (next door) at 6pm.
